Gill makes plaques for wall hanging, or tiling into walls, in earthenware, stoneware and porcelain. They are modelled in low relief and decorated with glazes or, using a novel technique combining glass and porcelain, given an effect rather like stained glass windows. Designs are representational, with a range of subjects including wild life and landscapes – both imaginary and inspired by Gower. Gill’s work is shown widely in galleries across South and West Wales. She was a prize-winner in the Swansea Glynn Vivian Art Gallery Open Exhibition last Christmas. Intriguingly, if you Google ‘ceramic wall plaques’ and select images, you will see one of her Fantasy Landscapes as a top pick. She is a member of South Wales Potters.
Pop in to chat to the artist, have a look in her studio to see how the plaques are made, and browse the work displayed around the house undisturbed in your own time.
